Rummy Card Game
The family of card games is called Rummy, Rummy card game is
interesting to play and this is known for shrewd techniques which are
used to win the game. Here I will introduce the all facts about Rummy
like how to play, what are the rules and what are the variations of the
game Rummy etc.
Number of Players required for the game
Rummy is a play for two to six players.
Rummy is played with standard 52-card deck. In which king is high and
Ace is low scorer card. But in some variant of the game Rummy Ace is
considered either high or low.
What should be the Goal of the play?
The goal of the game should be to meld all of the cards as quickly as
possible.
Setup of the game
A dealer is chosen after shuffling. Cards are dealt to each player as
follows:
• If there are only two players then ten cards are dealt to each player.
• If there are three or four players then seven cards are dealt to each
player.
• If the players are five or six in numbers then 6 cards dealt to each
player.
The remaining cards are positioned face down in the centre of the desk
to form the stock pile or the draw pile. The cards which are placed face
up in the centre of the desk form the discard piles.
How to play the Rummy Card Game?
All players must follow the below rules on their turn to play the game
and these are as follows:
- Each player should draw one card either from the top of the
discard pile or from the top of the stock pile.
- A player can make melds of cards or put in to opponent’s melds.
- A player ought to discard 1 card, putting it to the top of the
discard pile. In one condition a player may choose not to discard if
his all cards are melded and so discarding of card by him is not
necessary.
NOTE: If a player has drawn the top card from the discard pile he is not
allowed to discard that card on the same go round.
Melds
A card can be melded in two situations and these are:
- Sets: 3 or 4 cards of the same kind.
- Runs or Sequences: 3 or more successive cards of the same suit.
Laying Off
If meld is already created by a player and another player have also
created a meld then this is known as “laying off”. The laid off cards
are positioned in front of the player on the desk.
Example1: A player has formed a meld that contains three 8s then another
player can lay off an eight.
Another example2: A meld has been formed by a player in which 8-9-10 of
hearts are present. Then another player can lay off the Jack of Hearts
or the seven of Hearts or both.
Example3: A melds which contains 3-4-5 of clubs by one player then
another player can lay off six or seven of clubs.
Going Out
If a player plays is playing his last card either by laying off, melding
or discarding then the player is considered "goes out".
Scoring
The turn gets point whenever a player goes out. And the cards which are
left in other players' hands are accredited to the victor of the hand
like this:
- Aces scores 1 point.
- Number cards have the points according to their face value.
- Face cards are value 10 scores each one.
Going Rummy in Rummy Card Game
If a player plays laying off, melding and discarding in a single turn
then the player "goes rummy". The player is rewarded by doubled scores
if for that turn if he goes Rummy.
In some variations of Rummy games Ace is considered as high card. If it
is then Ace is generally considered as 15 points.
Winning
To win the game Rummy some mark is set and it is generally 100 points to
score or 150 points to score in each. A player who scores this point is
the winner of the game. Since, the game rummy is popular among the

computer player or with a human player.
